Labour Kingshurst Medical Centre Campaign

On 1 February 2014, I went out with a sizeable number of dedicated local Labour members and councillors (David Jamison, Alan Nash, Flo Nash) to campaign on the potential closure of Kingshurst Medical Centre in the Meriden constituency.

The medical centre is currently under threat of closure which could lead to:

1. A number of local residents left without care and having to travel further to receive vital services.

2. Stress and access difficulties for elderly people; and

3. Other local medical centres having to cope with larger patient numbers.

Additionally, when I spoke to local residents they told me that the centre is not up to scratch and that it needs significant improvement. Indeed, the fact standards have not been satisfactory is no secret and has made national press.

For these reasons, the Meriden Labour Party and I are strongly urging the Tory-led Solihull Council (supported by the Lib-Dems) to:

1. Guarantee that local residents will not be left without a medical centre; and

2. To press ahead with plans as quickly as possible to build a brand new medical centre which is fit for purpose and sustainable long-term.
