31,452 wait longer than a week for GP times

David Cameron scrapped Labour’s guarantee of an appointment within 48 hours and now 60 per cent of patients say they can’t see their GP within two days.

In the area covered by Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group, 31,452 patients say they have waited more than a week. And Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems have been too weak to stand up to David Cameron and have backed the Tories all the way.

I am supporting and advocating on behalf of Labour who have said they will guarantee a GP appointment within 48 hours and on the same day for those people in Solihull and Meriden who need it.

GP waiting times aren't the only problem though:

1. Thousands of frontline staff have been lost from the NHS since David Cameron became Prime Minister. Experts say that A&Es don’t have safe staffing levels with treatments like cataract and knee operations being rationed.

2. David Cameron is responsible for the crisis in our NHS. He wasted £3 billion and caused chaos with a damaging NHS reorganisation he promised wouldn’t happen, that has led to over 4,000 NHS staff being laid off and then rehired, many on six-figure salaries.

3. His reforms put private profits before patient care, tying hospitals up in competition law.

4. Cuts to elderly care are sending more older people to A&E and making it harder to get the care they need at home.

Along with greatly improved GP waiting times, Labour will repeal David Cameron’s NHS changes that put private profit before patients, so that NHS professionals can focus on your care, not competition law. Labour will also bring together physical health, mental health and social care into a single service to meet all of a person’s care needs – whole person care, built around patients, not bureaucrats.
