WHAT IS MY EXPERIENCE?

On a personal level

My life experience has meant I appreciate and understand Labour values.

Growing up I learnt from my grandparents, who were immigrants, the prejudices and difficulties they had faced coming to the UK.

Throughout my childhood, my family had very little money and I learnt what it was like to need to rely on welfare to survive as my parents struggled for work.

When my parents divorced, I experienced what it was like living in poor quality housing for a time in Birmingham, and then needing to rely on family to put a roof over our heads.

My personal experiences will help me pursue Labour's objectives of helping families who are struggling financially and socially while also holding equality (whether based on gender, race, disability or sexuality) as being the key to a fairer and more prosperous society.

On a professional level

Since graduating from Bewdley High School in the West Midlands and gaining degrees from the University of Durham and the University of Cambridge:

I am practising as a lawyer in European and Competition law at an international law firm.

I am a school governor at a school for children with autism.

I volunteer for Barnardo's, working with a young person in care.

I am a Special Constable with the police, with full police powers.

I commit to providing free legal advice for lots of great causes such as employment tribunal advice, an environmental protection organisation and separate charities working for transgender people, supporting women suffering domestic violence and addressing violent behaviour originating in prisons, advocating against more free use of guns and protecting against racism and religious hatred.

I passionately support Labour values and principles.
