On 11 December 2013, Yvette Cooper, Lindsay Hoyle, Douglas Alexander and Ed Miliband talked to me and the other new Labour Parliamentary Candidates about Labour’s strategy to win in 2015.
Labour’s message
Labour’s message if that it will stand up for the majority and not a privileged few. That means tackling energy prices, getting rid of the bedroom tax and extending free child care.
The damaging Tory option
It also means reminding the public that this Tory-led government has cut taxes for the richest at the time the poorest are struggling most. A future Tory government will also see more of the same: fewer police on the streets, an increasingly overburdened social care system for the elderly due to cuts, and fewer nurses with A&E services stretched and waiting times up. Not to forget increasing student debt and complacency over 1,000,000 unemployed young people.
We all know the country doesn’t have much money, but these cuts create expensive problems down the line.
