I have received dozens of emails in the last few days about my stance on tax avoidance from constituents in Solihull and Meriden. This is what I said:
"Recent revelations seem to demonstrate that a large number or organisations and individuals have been exploiting flexibility in tax laws to avoid paying their fair share. While they have become wealthier from the hard work and infrastructure of the British economy, they have not paid the level of tax the public would expect. This is totally unacceptable, especially given the financial pressures on public services such as the NHS.
Rather than moan about the current Tory/Lib Dem government, I will just tell you where I stand on the issue. As Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Meriden, my priority will always be to ensure that we invest in this county's education system - that's how you generate skilled workers and a much stronger economy. Part of that priority requires fairer tax laws and I will support those legislation changes needed to prevent this scale of tax avoidance."
